Yesterday at appoximately 06:25 UTC 19 December 2017 one of our data stores experienced an unexpected error.

Our systems automatically put the data store into recovery mode and the data store cutover within a few minutes.

Our application automatically recovered its connections or operations with what appeared to be minor impact at that time.

At approximately 07:25 UTC, we observed that some of the workers responsible for sending emails had not in fact recovered their full capacity and that this meant they could not keep up with requests in real time. Due to the scale of processing, this had rapidly caused a backlog to form.

We successfully interevened manually and restored full processing capacity. It took approximately 40 minutes to fully process our backlog and resume normal processing at approximately 08:05 UTC.
